Surgery
Surgery is the most common treatment for cancer. Our Centre has an integrated operating room which ensures operations are conducted defiantly. In addition to conventional surgery, we offer minimally invasive surgery, as well as robotic surgery. This option is becoming increasingly popular as it minimizes bleeding, as well as reduces the risk of lacerations and infection during hospitalization. The technique is especially suited for procedures on areas such as the pelvis, the abdomen, and the prostate gland.
Functions of surgery:
- Biopsy for diagnosis and to determine treatment
- Removal of cancer cells spreading over large areas
- Preemptive removal of tissues prone to pathological changes
- Reconstructive surgery to restore damaged body parts after treatment (commonly used on breast cancer patients)
Minimally invasive surgery
Most cancer surgeries may be performed using a minimally invasive approach, such as via traditional laparoscopy or robotic surgery.

- Reduced risk of developing deep vein thrombosis
- Less trauma to tissues and organs near the surgical wound
- Maintains the patient’s nutritional status
Long-term advantages
- Eliminates risk of bowel adhesion to an open abdominal wound, which may lead to intestinal obstruction
- Eliminates risk of developing an incisional hernia, a hernia that occurs through an incompletely healed surgical wound in the abdominal wall
